During the winter, you probably don’t pay too much attention to your home’s outdoor spaces. But during the summer, you might be more interested in creating a space you love spending time in. If your yard, deck, or patio is looking a little worse for the wear, it might be time for a summer backyard makeover.
Summer Backyard Makeovers to WOW Guests & Buyers
Backyard makeovers can make your backyard more enjoyable, which in turn can make your home more appealing to buyers when you decide to sell. What’s more, social distancing measures and increased time at home have led many buyers to favor properties with large outdoor spaces or yards even more than in summers past.
If you want to improve your home and its value, then you might want to give some of these backyard makeovers a try.
Add outdoor furniture
It’s easy, it’s inexpensive, and it can make a big difference! Adding some patio furniture can make a dull or unused space seem bright, cheery, and welcoming. If you get a lot of sun, adding an umbrella can provide relief from the heat and protect your furniture, too.
Create a stone pathway
You don’t have to have a garden to have a scenic stone pathway through your backyard. Mulch and slate, bricks, or gravel can be used to create a walkway from your back door to other outdoor spaces or around to the front of your home. Upgrade your pathway with some lighting or a border of flowers.
Build or buy a fountain
A small fountain can be a great addition to a small yard or garden, and can double as a birdbath. You can buy these at most hardware stores, or if you’re crafty, you can create your own, too.
Light up the night
Adding a little lighting can bring some new life to your outdoor spaces—and make them usable after dark. Mood lighting can be added to decks or pergolas. Pathways or stairs can be lined in torches or lanterns for added safety.
Stay warm with a fire pit
Fire pits add a lot of fun and versatility to a yard, and can help stave off both bugs and cold. You can either invest in a chimney or stove, or even build your own fire pit easily enough.
Plant a garden
A few plants or flowers can totally transform your backyard. If you’re not sure where to start, visit your local gardening store or plant nursery for advice on what will work best for your location and lighting.
