Your Guide to Crofton’s Schools

Crofton is primarily served by the Anne Arundel County Public School System, the fifth largest district in Maryland. Currently, the district educates over 80,000 students and employs 5,000 teachers, with numbers expected to climb this year.

AACPS consists of 79 elementary, 19 middle, and 12 high schools, as well as a few charter schools and other specialty learning centers. Let’s take a closer look at the institutions located in and around Crofton.

Elementary Schools

Crofton’s youngest residents can choose between four different K – 5 schools. Crofton Elementary, Crofton Meadows Elementary, Crofton Woods Elementary, and Nantucket Elementary are all centrally located in town, and some have even received prestigious local and national recognition (including the National Blue Ribbon Award).

According to the Maryland School Report Cards, all of Crofton’s elementary schools performed at a rate of four out of five stars or higher. These schools also offer top-notch gifted and talented programs, in addition to low class sizes.

Middle Schools

Although Crofton doesn’t have any middle schools within city limits, students don’t have to travel far. Crofton Middle School is located in nearby Gambrills, which is just a six minute drive from town.

Crofton Middle School has received the National Blue Ribbon Award, and it’s known for its rigorous curriculum focused on student success. Students at CMS take six classes per day, and they also have the option to participate in sports or extracurriculars after school.

High Schools

Before this year, Crofton’s oldest students could choose to attend Arundel High or South River High. However, high demand and an increasing student population led the district to build Crofton High School, which is located right near Crofton Park.

Croton’s high schools all offer highly rated sports programs and extracurriculars, such as theatre and Global Ambassadors. Students can also participate in a variety of Advanced Placement programs, including AP Capstone.

Private Schools

Crofton is home to a variety of private schools, many of which feature specialized curriculums designed to help students succeed. The town’s private preschools include the Crofton Day School and Creative Garden Nursery School. Older students can attend nearby Annapolis Area Christian School, the Key School, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and countless other institutions.
