Baltimore is definitely a foodie town, so there are a LOT of good eats around the area. But if you’re looking for the cream of the crop, the best of the best, there are a few that really stand out from the crowd.
Here are my top eight must-try Baltimore restaurants.
Woodberry Kitchen
What: High-end American farm-to-table dishes
Where: 2010 Clipper Park Rd, Woodberry Baltimore
When: Dinner, weekend brunch
Details: Everything on the menu is locally sourced from a local farmer or waterman. Even the spirits are American-made and thoughtfully sourced. Oh, and I should probably mention Woodberry took home the James Beard Foundation Award in the “Best Chef: Mid Atlantic” category.
Ida B’s Table
What: Locally sourced soul food
Where: 235 Holiday St, Downtown Baltimore
When: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Details: If you’re looking for a delicious, unique, and modern take on traditional soul food, this is definitely the spot for you. Some of the favorite dishes include the catfish, fried chicken, octopus po’ boy, and yes, Native American tacos on frybread.
Charleston Restaurant
What: Luxurious French fare
Where: 1000 Lancaster St, Harbor East, Baltimore
When: Dinner
Details: Ultimate luxury meets exquisite French flavors at Charleston. The menu—crafted by a James Beard-nominated chef—might change with the season but one thing remains constant: the supreme quality of the entire dining experience.
La Scala
What: Truly traditional Italian flavors
Where: 1012 Eastern Ave, Little Italy, Baltimore
When: Dinner
Details: House-made pasta, cloud-like gnocchi, delectable marinaras… La Scala is truly the best authentic Italian dining outside of Italy.
Thames St Oyster House
What: The best and freshest local seafood
Where: 1728 Thames St, Fells Point, Baltimore
When: Dinner
Details: Thames Street features an amazing raw bar, some of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever tasted, and a knock-you-off-your-feet menu of some of the sea’s most exquisite flavors. Plus, almost all the pasta is made in-house.
Matthew’s Pizza
What: Delicious pizza.
Where: 3131 Eastern Ave, Highlandtown, Baltimore
When: Lunch, dinner
Details: In business since 1943, Matthew’s still draws in locals and tourists alike for its bold, unique, and utterly delicious pan pizzas that are categorized simply as “Matthew’s style” pizza.
The Chasseur
What: A unique open-air dining experience
Where: 3328 Foster Ave, Canton, Baltimore
When: Dinner, weekend brunch
Details: It’s three levels of delicious dining, including a third-story open-air lounge featuring delicious breezes and awe-inspiring views of the water and Fort McHenry… in addition to its distinctive drinks menu.
Abbey Burger Bistro
What: Creative burgers with bold flavor
Where: 1041 Marshall St, Federal Hill, Baltimore
When: Luch, dinner
Details: Choose from one of the Bistro’s mouth-watering specialties (like the Southwest Bison Burger or the Spicy Korean Duck Burger) or build your own burger with unique base options, like bison or shrimp, and nearly 60 cheeses and toppings.
