First Time Home Sellers: Tips for Getting Your Crofton Home SOLD

Sold house sign in Midwest suburban setting. Focus on sign.

Happy home-selling season! Spring is one of the busiest real estate seasons, because this is when buyers are at peak motivation.

So, if you’ve long been considering selling your home in Crofton, but aren’t sure where to start, now is the time! If this is your first home, and your first home sale, we have some great tips for selling your home.

Tip 1: Get it Priced

One of the most effective ways to sell your home is by pricing it correctly for current market conditions.

When you price a home too high, it might sit on the market for months. Price it too low, and you risk losing out on your hard-earned equity. That’s why working with an agent is critical—they’re more capable of understanding unique markets like Crofton.

Tip 2: Start the Home Staging Process

A tidy living room setting.

This means cleaning. Cleaning is a BIG part of the staging process—as is decluttering. Spend a weekend deep-cleaning your entire home.

If you have the means, you may want to invest in hiring a professional cleaning service. That way, you’ll only have to keep it tidy in between showings.

After Cleaning, Declutter

Go through all of the belongings in your home and get rid of stuff you don’t need. Be very diligent as you do this! Take a long hard look at every belonging to determine if it’s 1) valuable, 2) something you use every day (or every season), or 3) emotionally important to you.

Separate all of your belongings into one of three categories: keep, sell, or donate.

Tips for Staging

Once your home is clean and free of clutter comes the actual staging part. I have a guide on my site for home-staging, but here are some big tips you should follow:

  • Take down all personal effects (family pictures, children’s drawings, etc.) You want buyers to be able to see themselves living in your home!
  • Get rid of any bulky furniture that doesn’t accent your home’s natural space
  • If the weather is nice, open the windows and let in all the natural light you can

Step 3: Hire the Right Real Estate Agent

A handshake between two adults.

While it is possible to sell your home by yourself, otherwise known as going For Sale By Owner (FSBO), it’s not recommended.

Real estate is a tricky industry, and you’re likely to sell your home quicker and for more money by hiring a professional agent who knows this area.

When you choose to work with me, Kyle McCarthy, you’re signing up for a stress-free real estate experience with a local REALTOR®. I’ll price your home for the market, help you stage it to perfection, and guide you through every step of the closing process.
